Droitwich Spa Hockey Club have run several Back to Hockey sessions which have co-insided with England Hockey since 2014. Droitwich Spa Hockey Club have also included both men and youngsters in the latest Back to Hockey Campaign and those who have wanted to make sure they did not lose their skills over the summer.
Eddie Burbage came down to Droitwich Spa Hockey Club after searching for a local club as he wanted to be part of a team and play some sport. Eddie added, "I looked into playing a sport and wanted something that was in Droitwich and liked the sound of this club. I came down having never picked up a stick and was greeted by a warm club who encouraged". Eddie was able to play fitting this around his work commitments and made the transition to the men thirds team at the time even scoring a goal
The following campaign Duncan Lowe was encouraged to be part of Droitwich Spa Hockey Club by family members who were already part of the Club. Eddie joined the club as he wanted to encourage his children to play a sport which they could play together and this was a club and sport that this could help. Duncan explained,"I was able to play a team sport and encourage my children to play as well, and play as and when I was able to". Duncan made the progression from the men 3s to the 2s in attack
Karen Denby has joined the club following Spa Back to Hockey campaign as she was spending more time down the club because he daughter was rising through the Droitwich Junior ranks. Karen has become an established member in the Women section and for the forthcoming season taking on a more senior role as her Daughter, Caitlyn, makes her senior debut.
"Its brilliant that we both can play in the same team and progress enjoying a sport in the ladies 2s". Dritwich Hockey club encourage anyone to come and join the club and bring their experiences, as the club has had many different mother/daughters who have played at the club
Lisa Gurr "Really Enjoyed Hockey at her local School" which was around thirty years ago and has always wanted to get back to play some sport especially Hockey. Lisa Family is sports orientated and during the winter months can now enjoy Hockey, have some fun as well as having the added bonus of improving her fitness. Lisa added: "I enjoy playing in a team as well as learning a new skill as the game has changed so much since I last picked up a stick".
Back to Hockey is also helping as the more that she is playing the more that she is picking up the new rules as there is now no offside and free hits are the biggest changes which she is getting used to
Helen Whiteside was already attending Droitwich Hockey Club because of her son passion for Hockey. Helen continued, "I was spending Wednesday and Saturday down the club and thought I wanted to play more of a team sport which Tennis does not always offer".
"There was other people down the club who spoke of how welcoming and accessable the session were which was important because I had not played Hockey since I was at School". Helen when she has been able to has played for the ladies 2s using her experience of playing sport in particular, Netball, which has allowed her to progress
In the latest Back to Hockey sessions Sarah Wilkes said that wanted to try a team sport. She added "I wanted to play a team sport to get fit something different to running and going to gym classes where you never get to know the people that you are sharing the workout. Hockey was something that I played at school and I was keen to take up a sport and I was keen to take up a sport.
Sarah had played Hockey at School which was 10 years ago and was apprehensive coming back to Hockey.
"As I had not played Hockey for more than 10 years I did not know what to expect and I saw an advert for Droitwich Spa Back To Hockey. This appeared to be the perfect opportunity to have a "gentle" introduction
and give Hockey a try
Sarah added what made Droitwich Hockey Club distinctive was the range of abilities that were there stating "Everyone was really welcoming and I got to meet many different players from the different sections of the club which made me feel at ease from the start".
She liked the style of coaching as it was challenging but not too daunting and felt as though I had improved week on week with the small sided games and the different game based scenarios. Finally Sarah explained "it is a great way to meet people; getting fit at the same time and I would recommend Back To Hockey even to new people to the sport
